A small kingdom, and the place where the campaign begins. All PCs in the campaign hail from Ardwen. Ardwen is one of the Lighted Realms, and more specifically, it is a Warded Realm with little exposure to the greater world. At just over sixty-five miles in diameter, most of Ardwen’s inhabitants live out their lives entirely within its borders. All places that exist outside The Wards are thought to be dark and dangerous badlands where only the foolhardy would dare to tread.
Ardwen is bordered on the north and east by the dark and foreboding Notchwood Forest, on the west by the open fields and plains of West March, and on the south by the great Grey Marsh. A rugged hilly area, the Rubric Hills, dominates much of the northeast region, while the enchanting copses and woods of Blithewood occupies much of the southwest. The Chiltern River is the major river that bisects the kingdom on a generally north-south axis, beginning on the northern border in Notchwood, passing through Braemore and Ardmore before reaching its terminus at River’s End and The Bog. Smaller tributaries that flow into the Chiltern River are The Little Trout, which flows northeast past Underton and joins the Chiltern just north of Braemore at Braemore Lake; and the Big Trout, which flows on a westerly course through Overton and joins the Chiltern on the southern edge of Ardmore.
